The why

Why we exist

No serious business would ask a generalist to conduct its audit, structure a transaction, or lead a finance transformation. Those are specialist tasks, and everyone treats them that way.

Yet finance hiring, the decision that determines who does all of that, is routinely handed to generalists. The same recruiter placing a sales lead on Monday is assessing a Finance Controller on Tuesday, working from a job description and a keyword match.

We started HireGenie because the gap is difficult to ignore. Evaluating a finance professional properly requires understanding what the role actually demands, how the function is evolving, and where a candidate's experience genuinely fits.

The what

What we believe about finance hiring

Finance hiring is not the same as hiring in general, and treating it that way is where most searches go wrong.

A resume tells you where someone has been. It does not tell you whether they can do this role, in this business, at this stage. A Finance Controller who was excellent in a stable multinational may struggle to build controls from scratch in a startup. A strong FP&A analyst in a mature business may be lost without historical data to work from. The resume looks right in both cases. The hire still fails.

We believe the right hire is a question of context, not credentials. We believe long-term fit matters more than speed, because a fast hire that leaves in a year costs more than a slower one that stays. And we believe recruitment works only when it is built on trust, on both sides, because the best finance professionals are rarely in the market, and they do not respond to firms they don't respect.

Jinendra Lodha
Finance Manager · Manufacturing company
FP&A Manager · Mumbai

We needed an FP&A Manager for our company in Mumbai and had no luck with generic recruiters. HireGenie came in with a solid database and real finance hiring knowledge. They quickly connected us with candidates who had the right mix of analytical and business skills.

Placements across

The framework

How we evaluate finance talent

We assess every candidate against seven dimensions. The framework exists because hiring decisions fail on context far more often than on competence, and most of what matters sits below the surface of a resume. A resume can confirm the first two rows. The other five have to be evaluated by someone who understands finance well enough to know what they are looking at. That is the part generalist recruiting skips, and it is usually the part that decides whether a hire works.

01

Technical Competency

Genuine functional depth, not keyword familiarity

02

Industry Experience

Whether the candidate has operated in your kind of business

03

Career Progression

The trajectory behind the titles, not just the titles

04

Business Understanding

Commercial judgment beyond technical accuracy

05

Leadership Capability

How they manage teams and stakeholders under pressure

06

Communication Skills

Whether they can influence people who aren't in finance

07

Organizational Fit

Whether they suit this business, at this stage

Who we work with

Finance does not mean the same thing in every business, so we don't pretend one kind of finance hire fits all of them.

We work across all of these, and across global businesses hiring into India and the Middle East, because we understand how differently finance teams evolve in each.

The how

How we see it

We don't think finance hiring should be treated like any other hiring.

We don't think a resume tells the whole story.

We think great finance teams are built deliberately, through expertise, judgment and trust, and we built HireGenie to do exactly that.
