Why India

India Is a Capability Decision, Not Just a Cost Decision

Global businesses no longer hire from India purely to cut cost. India produces one of the world's deepest pools of qualified finance professionals, and an increasing number of multinational finance functions now run substantially out of it.

The old reason

Filling seats at a lower cost

Transactional work moved offshore to reduce headcount spend, with capability staying at head office.

What works now

Building genuine finance capability

GCCs and shared services centres taking on increasingly strategic mandates, evaluated against global standards.

Why Businesses Hire Finance Talent from India

Deep pool of CAs, CPAs and finance graduates trained to global standards

Two decades of GCC and shared services maturity

Cost efficiency at comparable skill levels

Time zone overlap with Europe, Middle East and US handover

Direct Hire, EOR or GCC: Which Route Fits

Three ways to employ finance talent in India. The right one depends on whether you have a local entity and how many people you intend to hire.

01

Permanent Hiring

Choose this if you already have an Indian entity.

  • You employ directly, on your payroll, under your policies
  • Lowest ongoing cost per employee
  • We recruit, you employ
Permanent Hiring

02

Employer of Record

Choose this if you have no Indian entity and are hiring a small number of people.

  • HireGenie is the legal employer, you direct the work

  • Exit the market without winding up a company

03

Build a GCC

Choose this if you are building a team, not filling roles.

  • Requires entity establishment, higher fixed cost
  • Cheaper per head once you scale
  • Full control over structure and culture
GCC finance hiring

Not sure which fits? We will tell you which structure makes sense for your situation before quoting for any of them.

Hire Talent

Hiring from India means recruiting finance talent based in India to support a business's domestic or global operations, typically through direct employment, a GCC entity or an Employer of Record structure.

Recruitment is charged as a percentage of the candidate's annual fixed compensation, payable once they join, with the percentage varying by seniority and search complexity. If you do not have an Indian entity, employment can be handled through our Employer of Record Services, priced separately as a fixed monthly fee per employee. If you already have an entity, we can process payroll instead. Recruitment, EOR and payroll are quoted separately, so you can see what each element costs. See Our Promise for how we work.

We assess how qualifications such as CA, CMA or Indian MBA programs map to the technical and leadership expectations of your home market, rather than assuming direct equivalence.

India's working hours typically offer several hours of overlap with both European and Middle East business hours, and a practical handover window with US time zones.

Yes. We support hiring across India's major finance talent hubs, including Bangalore, Mumbai, Pune, Gurgaon and Delhi NCR.

Notice periods in India are longer than in most Western markets. Junior finance roles typically serve 30 to 60 days; managers and controllers usually serve 60 to 90 days; senior leadership can run to 90 days or more. Buyouts are sometimes possible but are not guaranteed. Plan the start date around this rather than treating it as a negotiation point.

Most India-based finance searches close within 3-6 weeks, depending on seniority and how specialized the role is.

Not necessarily. Businesses without an Indian entity can hire through Employer of Record (EOR) services, which allow compliant employment without entity establishment. See Employer of Record Services for detail.

Yes. We support businesses at every stage, from the first India-based finance hire through to building out a full shared services or finance center of excellence team.

Common qualifications include Chartered Accountant (CA), CPA, CMA, CFA and MBA Finance, often combined with experience in global reporting standards such as IFRS or US GAAP.

Bengaluru and Mumbai have the deepest overall pools, Bengaluru for GCC, technology and startup finance, Mumbai for BFSI, capital markets and treasury. Gurgaon and Delhi NCR are strong for consulting-trained and multinational finance talent. Pune and Hyderabad have growing shared services and controllership pools, often at lower compensation than Bengaluru or Mumbai.

Employment contracts include confidentiality and intellectual property clauses, so anything the employee produces belongs to your business. Where employment runs through our Employer of Record Services, these protections sit in the contract we hold. Background verification covering identity, education, employment history and criminal record can be arranged through a specialist verification partner at cost.
